You should charge by the hour, but be fair because you’re not a professional. A professional has advertising, will do it right, has insurance, has a phone number for follow up service, and so on. You can’t get what a pro gets.
Now that you set a fair price, I’m thinking around $15, you need to be paid for getting the new part (trip to Home Depot) and for time to install and test the thermostat. Make a drawing of where the wires are on the old one before you remove them. Put the wires on the new one the same way.
You’d be better off for you and your neighbor doing work a 17-year can do correctly, like mowing yards, or cleaning garages, but you’re an entrepenuer now, so Good luck!
your 17 she’s the neighbor 20 buck, quick job be nice, Hell if she’s a nice lady do it for free
Do it for free, and graciously accept a tip if offered.
No more than $20, and since its a neighbor I would say not to charge even
I am an electrician and I get into situations like this all the time. I **** doing things for friends and neighbors because of the pay issue. What I do is just say No, don’t worry about it or I say whatever you think it’s worth and then accept what they offer.
PS: Sometimes they offer you more than you were going to ask. You look like a good guy and you make a few bucks.
make sure you read the directions, 4 wires 4 colors should only take about 15 to 20 minuets, charge about $10 or $20.
God help you if it’s a heat pump. You’ll end up botching it and paying for a technician.
If you gotta ask, you better stay away from her !!!!!!
