  • strip the chain off it and clean up the sproket with wire wool or wire/brass brush or is it badly pitted then by a new one but if its that orange type it should come off easy enough and then oil it back up after

  • Lube it up and ride it unless it is worn out (stretched), then you should replace it.

  • Clean with chain cleaner spray , then lube it.

  • Use a cloth sprayed with WD-40 to coat the chain then use a soft metal brush (like brass) to clean off the rust. Depending on how much pitting you have in your chain, you can decide whether or not to replace it. If you decide to keep the chain, get some good chain lube that works for your chain. You’ll need to find out if the chain is an o-ring chain or not to find the right lube.

  • The chain should be replaced.
If the chain was properly lubricated, it wouldn’t have rusted.
Rust isn’t an ugly growth like mold and mildew.
The metal is deteriorating due to oxidation.
Rust is the byproduct of that chemical reaction.
The strength of the metal is compromised when it gets rusty.

  • if it’s been used a fair bit just re-new it.
    lube it otherwise.

  • If its a bright color orange then it is just surface oxidation,… if it is a deep color, or burnt orange it may have pitted the structural integrity of the steel. Bottom line: surface rust, wire brush relube. Deep rust, replace. Being in the garage is one thing. Being out in the weather for weeks is another.

  • get a bottle of rust off
