There are lots of log home kits available from many different companies. If you have not built a log home, I would suggest hiring a contractor that is familiar with it.
I would not purchase one for myself, have seen too many problems in log homes. Log homes are very high maintenance, will need to apply a sealer every few years.
Do a search on google! I did and I found loads of info about it! pine is long and straight and perfect for log cabins
its not possible for wood to rot if the moisture content is below example 15* -keep the logs off the ground -have as much air as possible circulating around them and regular attention to the varnish-paint or sealer
Hi. You can!
As of rotting away, you don’t have to worry much, as pine, naturally high in resin which preserves it.
However, woodworm is most likely to chew on it, so you will have to spray some sort of protection on it.
The log cabin concept is a pretty old form of building involving not much more, than half lapping and notching the logs together.
But if you planning building it yourself, research it a bit more as the roof can be quite tricky.
YES, that is what log cabins are made from. The trees need to be Straight as possible and dried. You will want to get all bark off. You would also not want the logs to be in constant contact with damp ground, water etc. Pine WILL ROT if not treated or left in constant contact with damp ground etc. Building a log cabin is not all that bad, it takes a lot of labor and knowledge of how to lay the logs. You will want to seal in between each log also. Try to get as much info as possible and be ready to learn, and use common sense. The end result is a beautifull home.
if i was building one …i would construct a framework from 5×2 tanilised timber and line exterior with tyvec (a breathable membrane) counter batten in tanilised lathe and fix my split pine logs to that ..tri iso 10 .on inside walls counter batten and thermal boards .. and boy will you be cosy …triple glazing if available in your area
