Question for all religious people and Atheists: How do I become more spiritual?

how do I
Shawn W asked:

How do I become closer with God? How do I develop an intamacy with God? Or if you’re not a God believer, my question to you is, how do I become more spiritual? I feel spiritually dead.

By leaving your brain in a jar at the door.

Spirituality is just communicating with your subconscious. No deity required.

Ram a long metal spike through your head and go out to play in thunderstorms.

It probably starts with good time management: spirituality is about discovering an inspiring story about your place in the world and your connections to everything else, and its hard to have story-time if you are being run ragged.

    Read the Bible :D

Read (or watch) Shakespeare. Also Dickens, Plato, almost any philosophy. Go out there and help the needy, if it suits you.

I just picked up a book yesterday. It’s great so far.

The Little Book of Atheist Spirituality by André Compte-Sponville.

Meditate… read spiritual texts and don’t focus on only ONE… that is the worst idea… study all religion and spirituality. This includes the paranormal (though there is no such thing, it is just NORMAL)…
    Pray
    Fast if you choose
And if you really want, experiment with psychedelics. Do this with a serious mind anticipating a vision quest- of course if you choose this, be extremely careful of your mindset and watch your surroundings.

Yes, meditate, just get comfortable..dont think about a particular diety…let the thoughts come to you…just enjoy yourself!

Knowing that through the means of science, we have discovered we are a part of the universe. The cosmos is also within us. We are connected to this planet as well as all life is related. That is at the heart of spirituality. A feeling of oneness and the most amazing thing about it, it’s completely true! We are related to all life, and we are made of star stuff.

    Death gives life meaning.

Thanks for the open arms, but…are you really asking us atheists how to get closer to god? ;P

Hang out with spiritual people, that sort of feeling tends to be reinforced by others.

I try not to let my emotions lead me as they are only loosely based on reality.

    Shawn W,

    Please visit this website

The information on this website will answer every question you have.

Other than that, get into your room, close the door and just talk to God, and find a Bible teaching church near you. I recommend a Calvary Chapel. Get a bible and start reading it. I would start with John. Hope this helps.

    God Bless

Faith and reading the Holy Bible. Faith comes by hearing, and by hearing the word of God. Without Faith it is impossible to please God, therefore you NEED to feed yourself with Gods spiritual food, the Bible. Jesus loves you!

Wow! I think I know how you feel. I believe the way to have God draw closer to you is for you to move closer to Him. I have found a simple way of doing so. I pray out loud. I used to pray in thoughts, but when I began speaking to God honestly, as though I were talking to another person with me, or even on the phone, out loud I began to feel blessed. Then I noticed that I was actually looking forward to going to church, just so I could feel his pressence. And I also found that I was actually enjoying reading the Bible. That I didn’t recognize it as a chore I had to perform like some ritual. Now, when I read the Bible I find I do not want to put it down, like I used to be when reading a good book. Indeed now I am reading the ultimate Good Book. I don’t know if this will work for you or not, but I will pray for you, and you pray for me also. And God bless you, as I am sure He will.
