How much should I quote for developing a custom Finite Element Analysis (FEA) program in Fortran?

Blue asked:

The FE program should handle 1D, 2D and 3D linear thermal and structural problems. The elements should be linear: line, triangular, quadrilateral, tetrahedral and hexahedral. The company requesting the development will own the source code. They are a medium size engineering company.

I have a PhD (May 2009) but extensive experience in FE development and applications as it was part of my dissertation.

Figure out how man hours it will take you to develop the program, double that number and multiply by $100. Add a rider for all meetings and travel to be billed at $100 an hour and all travel expenses are extra.

If you are just starting out you need to get some work under your belt so you will have references.

If they think your price is too high agree to do it as a guaranteed max with a share the savings of 50/50 for any amount below the quoted price.
