Two major ways to make yourself more attractive are by doing alot of impressive extracurriculars,and having alot of Advanced Placement courses. Join teams, clubs, sports, etc.. AP courses are impressive to colleges because they are college-level classes, and if you pass the course you get college credits as well. You should also start studying for the SATs and score high, and you should ALSO maintain a high GPA. Columbia is an Ivy League school, so you need to have a really good application to stay competitive. If those are two of your passions, you should join the track team, and you should do community service hours at a nearby hospital. You will need more extracurriculars though. Sit down and think to yourself what clubs and teams could benefit you.
You mean how to give your transcript a little boost? Get good grades, all A’s would do. Take loads of AP/honor classes, and if you can, try to get a 4 or 5 on the exams for brownie points. Another major thing is the SAT/ACT. I don’t know how much I can stress this but, study study study study! You need a high score, at least a 2100, since you’re aiming for Columbia, to make your chances to stand out more. A bad SAT score can and WILL destroy your chances. As far as extracurricular goes, just do enough, and don’t go overboard, but not too little either. Ask for all the letters of recommendations you can get, and choose the best ones to send to the College. Also start planning to write your essay!
